Jehar continues his updates of the QExpo 08 site with encouragements of booth creation, and thanks to all who have contributed so much thus far. QExpo will continue to be hosted by Tastyspleen this year, and I am looking forward to it greatly.

I have to announce however that my coverage of this years QExpo on Inside3d will be severely limited at best, as it opens on the same weekend of my marriage. I know, I know, you can argue that I am married to Quake, but from what I understand the hell-goat-mother-of-a-thousand-young is a polygamist, so I feel justified in my union with a human as well as an elder god.

Though my coverage will be lacking, I am sure the official site's will be not, as Jehar is most assuredly hopped up on more bawls than a batting cage and eager to bring you all the latest frag updates first hand and faster than a speeding depleted uranium slug! Never mind the haste of his horrendous hired henchmen to assist him in the news posts! QExpo 08 - August 15th!

Willem has released an update for the Mac Quake level editor ToeTag! Though lacking in meat hooks and cadavers, it is ample with fixes for WAD loading/saving and significantly improved CSG routines. Unfortunately being Mac only, I've not had a chance to try it, but it does look quite excellent.

However not only is there a new version, but Willem continues with the generosity in releasing the source code for ToeTag, in Cocoa and Objective-C. Both the installation and the source code can be downloaded here, and from the same page you can find links to tutorials and a sample level, and just as an extra oomph, ToeTag is the editor Willem used to craft his old school delicious maps for the mod Qonquer. Go get it!

Quake News
Tuesday, 5 August, 2008 - by scar3crow
Jehar has updated the QExpo 08 dates to August 8th for booth registration, and August 15th for the beginning of the expo. To quote Jehar:

For the intervening week, we want to see lots of people talking about quake expo, getting people on with their booths, and spreading the word as much as possible.

You heard the man! Get abuzzing! Tell your friends! Tell your enemies! Tell your favorite rocket launcher and get ready for the 2008 Quake Expo!

A heads up to those who don't so regularly frequent the forums, there is an interesting discussion in two threads between mh, metlslime, frag.machine, Spike, LordHavoc, Urre and others regarding a standardized protocol, and its implications for singleplayer map loading, demo recording, networking and engine interoperability.

You can read the starting thread here and the branching thread, created to avoid topic confusion, here.

I find it odd that I can find discussion of protocol standardization so exciting! Hey, it leads to a better, more efficient gibbing!

I must make a post simply to apologize for my absence from the community as of late. I recently moved 2700 miles, left school, got a full time job, and am now preparing for marriage. I know, I know, I've been neglecting Quake nonetheless, and I promise that I will be plunging ax-first into the community once more, as soon as I have internet access hooked up to my new apartment.

I will say that I am excited for Quake's future once again, and was even a bit invigorated by my absence regarding it. Though I was unfortunate enough to miss QuakeCon and will be at least partially disposed of for QExpo08, in this transition I have had the genuine joy of meeting in person LordHavoc, Jehar, SantaClaws and crimity, who have all been very generous fellows.

I will see you on the forums, the servers, and this very page soon enough! Until then, don't be too hard on Coco and Error!

We thought you'd be interested that the fourth beta of Qoetia has been released on this thread of QuakeOne's forums. The mod is a continuation of SuperCoop, offers a lot of coop tweaks and is playable not only in coop mode, but also in deathmatch and single-player mode. It's also a tiny download, so be sure to check it out!

Motorsep has posted a first look at his upcoming game Prophecy: Return of the Blademaster, with video and screenshots.

Prophecy is designed in the same vein as MageSlayer and Take No Prisoners, focusing on arcade combat action and exploration, with plenty of carnage along the way, and a bit of magic and powerups.

It will be an episodic singleplayer/coop title released in multiple commercial chapters, and uses the DarkPlaces engine, with per pixel lighting and other features.
